The story starts with a dating fast, a May celebration, and a long wait. But after a year of prayer and steadfast patience, God brought Jackson & Kate together for a lifetime of self-giving holy matrimony and obedient faith.

Up until 2022, we were living in sin and in the world. Kate was up to no good as a workaholic, prideful, seeking significance and living a full and fast life, having a gut feeling she would die (and meet her husband, weirdly enough) at 29. Little did she know her 'death' would be dying to herself and being reborn in Christ. Jackson was an alcoholic, lustful, and suicidal, but when his best friend told him that even he was done with him. Jackson faced himself and chose life in Christ.

Kate gets baptized and is born a new in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Jackson gets baptized and is born a new in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and goes through the Alpha program (https://alphausa.org/), becoming a changed man by accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This began the road to recovery from alcoholism, lust, slothfulness, and self-hate.

February 15, 2023

After moving back from CA, Kate joined Alpha (https://alphausa.org/) where she was placed in Jackson's group. Unbeknownst to Kate, that night Jackson told his friend his interest in Kate. His friend said, "She's a Christian girl, can you marry her?" Without hesitation, "Yes!". He began praying for Holy Matrimony and set his sights on one little lady. 🎀

After months of struggle and heart-breaking turmoil, Kate became a changed woman by falling onto her knees in tears and crying out for Jesus to come into her life, recognizing her deep need for God. By accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, this simple act began the road to recovery from suicide, workaholism, self-sufficiency, vanity, and pride. God asked Kate to fast from dating for six months.

The book that started it all..... After Alpha finished Jackson & Kate had a long phone call about the generalities of dating as Christians. Kate mentioned this book and how it says a man shouldn't worry about what a women looks like, etc. Just find the Godliest woman you can and ask her out. Without skipping a beat, Jackson asked Kate (smart man) . Unfortunately she was still on the dating fast, but if he could wait three more months...

After lots of prayer and a year of waiting, Kate ended her dating fast and called Jackson when God affirmed it was him. She happily accepted his offer for a date! Many tears of joy were shared that night. 🥹 The first dinner was a romantic night at Chili's and things have been spicy ever since 🌶.

May 1, 2022 - Jackson's sobriety date, also Kate's baptism. May 1, 2023 - Jackson asks Kate out but she declines because she's on a dating fast. May 1, 2024 - Date night at Flagstaff and a visit to Sunrise Amphitheater where it was later discovered Mr. & Ms. Bickler were married. What will May 1, 2025 bring?

Kate heard in prayer that God was preparing her for the next chapter and to surrender her career, nonprofit, and five extra curricular roles to God. Time to let it all go. This kick-started a process of her pairing down to only one day job and lots of time for hobbies (or maybe a new calling to a life-long role). Wife? Mother? Anyone?
